Downtown Augusta Inc. (DAI) is proud to announce the election of new officers for its board of directors, including a new board president.
Drew Wilson with Spencer, Wernli, and Wilson financial advisors, is a business man in downtown Augusta just like his predecessor, outgoing President Bill Morris, with William Morris Associates.
“The community of Augusta has been very good to me, my family, and my business,” said Wilson. “Contributing my time and money to the success of our downtown business district, and the community as a whole, is a small way I can give back.”
Dana Rogers with McCollom Construction takes over as board secretary, Jennifer Baugher with Aqua Tech Engineering Consultants is the new board treasurer, and Mark McCollom was reappointed to his position as vice-president.
“This is an exciting time to serve the mission of Downtown Augusta Inc,” said Cindy Hicks, Executive Director of Downtown Augusta Inc. “We enjoyed many successes in the past year. Our new officers, and the rest of the board, are ready to build on that foundation in the coming year.”
Those successes include the Brick Street Festival, which drew thousands of people to downtown Augusta last June and the campaign to raise money for Christmas lights for downtown.
“Not only were we able to host several family-friendly community events, we also gained several new businesses in the downtown area this year,” said Wilson. “It is that type of small business development success that I would like to see continue at an even faster pace in the coming year.”
If you are interested in starting a small business in downtown Augusta, Wilson points out that Downtown Augusta Inc. has a zero interest loan program that might help along with other resources.
“Revitalizing and energizing our historic business district is the main goal of DAI,” said Wilson. “Without people to do business down on the bricks, there would be no need for our organization.”
Some of the upcoming events include the April Fool’s Run on March 28, the Brick Street Festival on June 19 and 20, Witch’s Night Out on October 22, the Red Brick Harvest and trick-or-treat street on October 31, and Small Business Saturday with the annual Christmas Parade and tree lighting on November 28.
